Professional Solar Panel Testing Across the UK

Confirming That Your Solar PV System Is Safe, Compliant and Generating at Its Full Potential

Electrical Testing UK carries out solar panel testing and inspection for homeowners, businesses and public sector organisations. A solar PV system that has not been tested since installation may be underperforming without any visible sign, degraded panels, loose DC connections, inverter faults and deteriorating cables can all reduce output significantly while the system continues to appear operational. Our engineers carry out a full inspection and electrical test of the array, DC cabling, inverter, AC connection and generation meter, identifying faults, performance losses and compliance issues and providing a detailed report with recommendations.

Key Features Include

Full System Inspection and Electrical Testing

We inspect and test the complete solar PV system from panel to grid connection, covering the array, DC cabling, inverter, AC isolators and generation meter.

Legionella Testing

Performance and Fault Identification

We identify underperforming strings and individual panels, faulty connections, inverter issues and cabling deterioration that are reducing system output.

Compliance Verification

We verify that the system meets the requirements of BS 7671, MCS standards and DNO connection requirements, and that any changes since installation have been correctly certified.

Thermal

Thermographic Imaging Available

Thermographic imaging of the array identifies hotspot faults and cell failures that are not detectable by electrical testing alone, providing a more complete picture of panel condition.

Remedial Work Directly Available

Where testing identifies faults or deficiencies, Electrical Testing UK carries out remedial work directly, restoring system performance and compliance without the need for a separate contractor.

Solar PV Testing and Inspection for Every System Type and Setting

Solar Panel Testing for Domestic Properties Domestic solar PV systems installed under the Feed-in Tariff or Smart Export Guarantee schemes represent a significant investment that homeowners rely on for generation income as well as energy savings. Faults and performance losses that develop over time directly reduce the financial return from the system. We carry out full inspections and electrical tests for domestic solar PV systems, identifying panel degradation, connection issues and inverter faults, and providing a clear report of findings and recommended actions.

Solar Panel Testing for Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Systems Large commercial and industrial rooftop systems represent substantial capital investment and make a significant contribution to on-site energy generation. System faults and underperformance at this scale have a material financial impact. We test commercial and industrial solar PV systems of all sizes, carrying out string-level and panel-level performance analysis alongside full electrical testing of the DC and AC circuits, inverters and protection devices.

Solar PV Testing Following Purchase of a Property Where a property with an existing solar PV system is being purchased, testing before completion confirms the condition of the system, identifies any faults or non-compliances, and provides the purchaser with an accurate picture of the system’s performance and remaining serviceable life. We carry out pre-purchase solar PV inspections for domestic and commercial buyers, providing a report that can support price negotiations or inform remedial requirements.

Periodic Testing and Maintenance for Solar PV Systems Solar PV systems require periodic inspection and testing to confirm continued safe and efficient operation. We provide periodic testing programmes for domestic and commercial operators, with testing intervals aligned to the age and condition of the system, and maintenance carried out at the same visit where required.

The Solar PV Testing Process. Inspection, Testing and Reporting

Visual inspection of the array and system components We carry out a full visual inspection of the panel array, mounting structure, DC cabling and connections, inverter, AC isolators and generation meter. We check for physical damage, soiling, shading, loose or corroded connections, cable deterioration and any signs of overheating or moisture ingress. The visual inspection identifies faults and conditions that affect both safety and performance before electrical testing begins.

Electrical testing of the DC and AC circuits We carry out electrical testing of the DC circuits including open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current and insulation resistance testing of the strings, verifying that each string is performing within the expected parameters for the panels installed. We test the AC circuits from inverter to grid connection, verifying correct operation of protection devices and confirming that the inverter output is within specification.

Reporting and recommendations On completion we provide a written report covering all inspection findings, electrical test results, identified faults and performance issues, and recommended remedial actions prioritised by urgency. Where thermographic imaging has been carried out, thermal images of the array are included in the report. The report provides the documentation required for warranty claims, insurance purposes and compliance records.

Why Homeowners and Businesses Choose Electrical Testing UK for Solar Panel Testing

Full system testing, not just a visual check We carry out electrical testing of the DC and AC circuits as well as a visual inspection of the system. A visual inspection alone cannot identify insulation faults, connection resistance issues or inverter performance problems that are affecting output.

Thermographic imaging for complete panel assessment We offer thermographic imaging of the panel array to identify hotspot faults and cell failures that are invisible to electrical testing. For larger arrays in particular, thermographic imaging provides a level of fault detection that string-level electrical testing cannot achieve alone.

Testing and remedial work under one contract Where testing identifies faults, we carry out remedial work directly. No need to find a separate contractor, faults are identified and resolved by the same team.

Experience across all system types and sizes From domestic rooftop systems to large commercial arrays, our engineers have the experience and equipment to test solar PV installations of all types and sizes correctly.

Qualified engineers, not subcontractors All solar panel testing is carried out by our own NICEIC-qualified engineers. We do not subcontract, so quality and accountability remain with Electrical Testing UK throughout.
